Samajwadi Party was established in Lucknow on October 4, 1992 under the guidance of Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav. The party gives enormous importance to the development of common man and therefore embraced “bicycle” the vehicle of the common man as its symbol.
Since its entrenchment, the Samajwadi Party has come to power in Uttar Pradesh thrice (Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav had been the Chief Minister once before the party was formed) and has put in efforts to bring development and prosperity for the people in the state. The party formed the government in Uttar Pradesh under the leadership of Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav in 1993 and 2003, and in 2012 under the leadership of Shri Akhilesh Yadav. The Samajwadi Party is the third largest party in the 15th Lok Sabha.
Samajwadi Party works at the fundamental level for social elevation and believes in creating a prolific ground for the downtrodden sections of society so that everyone can live in peace & harmony.
